Parotid tumors are cell growths that begin in the parotid glands. The parotid glands are two salivary glands located just in front of the ears. There is one on each side of the face. The salivary glands produce saliva, which helps in chewing and digesting food. Most parotid tumors are non-cancerous. They are called benign or non-cancerous tumors of the parotid gland. Sometimes the tumors are cancer. These are called malignant parotid tumors or parotid cancer. Parotid tumors often cause swelling of the face or jaw. They generally do not cause pain. Other symptoms include difficulty swallowing or loss of facial movements.
